본 연구는 2009학년도 초등 수석교사 시범운영 대상자의 자서전적 이야기이며, 연구자가 ‘나’로 표현되는 1인칭 관점에서 기술되었다. 본 연구의 목적은 수석교사로서의 나의 삶과 그를 통한 의 미를 제시하는 것이다. 연구 자료는 연구자의 일기 및 일지, 대화 자료, 사진, 인터넷 자료 등을 통해 수집되었으며, 분석은 Clandinin & Connelly(2000)의 내러티브 분석 절차와 방법을 이용하였다. 본 연구를 통해 아직 수석교사 법제화가 이루어지지 않은 상황에서 수석교사로서의 내 삶은 수 석교사 역할 및 위상 정립을 위한 힘든 과정의 연속이었다. 관리직의 싸늘한 반응과 부장교사의 또 다른 상관으로의 인식 및 동료교사들의 인식 부족 등에 먼저 내 몸 낮추기로 다가갔고, 항상 남들보다 부지런하게 활동하였다. 또한 나를 지켜보는 보이지 않는 눈들과 행정적이나 체계적인 지원이 전무한 가운데 역할 수행에 부담이 많았지만 꾸준한 자기연찬과 봉사로 수석교사의 역할과 위상 정립을 묵묵히 해왔고, 거기에 따른 소기의 성과와 보람도 있었다. 이상과 같은 수석교사로서의 나의 삶을 통해 찾아낸 의미는 먼저 수석교사 법제화 이루어져야 한다. 법제화 이전의 역할과 지원에 대한 여러 가지 의견은 모두 사상누각에 불과할 뿐이다. 또한 보다 다양한 유인책으로 우수 인재를 끌어들일 수 있어야 실질적인 수석교사제가 정착될 수 있을 것이며, 관리직 및 일반교사들을 대상으로 연수 및 워크숍으로 수석교사제에 대한 홍보와 공감이 이루어져야 한다.
This study examines the life of an elementary school master teacher, told from the first-person perspective. The purpose of the study is to present the meaning of my life as a master teacher. The data were collected from the researcher\'s diary and journal, discussions with others, photos and online materials. Clandinin & Connelly\'s(2000) procedures and methods were used to analyze the data. It was a continually challenging process for me to formulate the role of master teachers and status at my school because legislation on the issue had yet to be passed. I was faced with cold responses from supervisors and the lack of understanding about the master teachers\' system among fellow teachers. I treated others with a humble attitude and worked more diligently than others. I felt pressure from people who were watching me silently. However, I consistently spent time on self-development, volunteer work, and formulating the role of master teachers and status. These efforts produced fruitful results. I have realized that legislation on master teachers should be passed and that the government should prepare various reinforcement policies for selecting talented teachers. Training programs and workshops for supervisors and teachers to develop an understanding of the system of master teachers is strongly recommended.
