This study is to find whether art therapy using music appreciation and
collage has the effect on improving the self-esteem of adolescents from
broken families. Subjects for the study were 15, adolescents from broken
families who attended Y community center, K community center which is
located in Busan. The program ran for 12 sessions, twice a week, 60 minutes
per session from February 6, 2012 to March 15, 2012. The self-esteem
inventory used to prove the effect of this program is self-esteem Inventory(SEI)
made by Choi Bo-ra and Jeun Gui-Yun(1993) referred to self-esteem inventories
by Coopersmith(1967), Pope, Mahale and Chaighead(1988). SPSS 18.0 was used
for data analysis while conducting paired t-test. The findings of this study
are as follows. It shows that art therapy using music appreciation and
collage has caused a meaningful difference in their self-esteem. In sub-areas,
there were significant differences in general self-esteem levels, social
self-esteem levels, and home self-esteem levels, but there was no significant
difference in school self-esteem levels. Consequently, it makes their life much
better. Based on the result, it is proven that art therapy using music
appreciation and collage on adolescents suggests a great effect on improving
quality of life.
