본 연구는 호국정신의 핵심요인으로 분류되어 서구에서 중점적인 관심사가 되고 있 는 국민적 정체감과 자긍심이 호국정신에 어떤 영향을 미치는지를 분석하였다. 호국정 신에 미치는 효과가 이들의 통합을 통해 보다 구체화될 수 있다는 Hjerm(1998)의 논 의를 바탕으로 기존연구와는 달리 통합모델을 설정하였다. 분석방법에 있어서는 호국정 신에 대한 국민적 정체감과 자긍심의 전반적 영향력 진단과 함께, 이를 구성하는 각 유 형별 영향력도 동시에 분석하였다. 분석결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. ① 국민적 정체 감과 국민적 자긍심 모두 호국정신에 긍정적인 영향을 미친다. ② 호국정신에 대한 국 민적 정체감과 자긍심의 효과는 각 유형별 뚜렷한 차이를 보인다. 인종적/민족적 속성 을 지닌 변수는 영향력이 큰 반면 시민적 속성을 지닌 변수는 호국정신에 상대적으로 적은 영향력을 갖는다. ③ 부문별 호국정신에 미치는 영향력은 국민적 정체감과 자긍심 변수간 큰 차이를 보인다. ④ 호국정신에 대한 국민적 정체감과 자긍심의 긍정적 효과 가 성별, 세대별 부정적 효과보다 크게 나타난다. 이러한 결과를 토대로 감소추이를 보 이는 호국정신 함양을 위해서는 어떤 노력이 필요할지를 논의하였다.
In respect of national security, Hjerm(1998) supposed that national identity and national pride need to be managed jointly. Following this argument,we examine the characteristics of national identity and nationalpride to affect the spirit of national security. Survey data are collected from college students who are considered to represent of new generations and adult persons over the 45 years who are perceived as representing the older generation. The results of this study can be summarized as follows.① Allvariables of national identity and national pride affect positively to the spirit of national security. ② In the types of national identity and national pride, main influential factors were very distinctly different. National security was affected distinctly by racial and national character's valuable, but national security was affected a little by civil character's valuable. ③ There were big differences between national identity variables and national pride variables on effects of national security. ④ The positive effects of national identity and pride were greater than negative effects on national security. Overall, this paper discusses how to improve national security and suggests research implications for further research.
