As international exchanges increase and personal exchanges are becoming more active with globalization, terrorism bas become an unavoidable issue even for our country (South Korea). Airborne terrorism goes beyond the plane-hijacking stage and is carried out in various forms such as airborne plane explosion, armed attack on planes mobilizing missiles, attacks on airports and airplane users, and attacks on outside facilities for flight services such as city airport terminals. The reason airborne terrorism is differentiated from other crimes is because it can easily attract the attention of the whole world and occurs frequently due to its nature of allowing easy attainment of goal with simple measures such as detaining hostages in a restricted space of an airplane. Ultimately, multilateral preparations against terrorism has become an essential part of national policy. Therefore, this study first aims to look into the concept of airborne terrorism and then to examine the possibility and problems of airborne terrorism occurrences in Korea, so as to contribute to establishing effective measures for aviation security.
