Recently, the age of people using computers is going down, which has brought the
usage of computer by young children into argument and also how young children use
computer is an important question. For this point of view, guidelines and curriculum
for the computer education of young children are set up and provided in foreign
countries, however these are lacking in South Korea.
Hence this study analyzed the contents, guidelines and curriculum of computer
education in England and the U.S.A. in order to suggest a possible curriculum of
early childhood computer education in South Korea.
In Britain and the U.S.A., the computer education guidelines and curriculum for early
childhood education are connected to those of elementary education and systemically
provided for the entire education levels with each integrated level. It is required that
the standards and contents of computer education for young children are established in
South Korea and, as a result, young children can i) use computers as tools of solving
problems, making decisions, and communicating opinions ii) develop abilities for critical
reviews iii) use computers with social and ethical responsibility.
