The purpose of this study was traditional Korean nursery rhymes for play affect
infant-mother interaction for the purpose of proving their hypothetical educational value.
The target group included twenty six infants from seven to ten months of age and the same
number of their moms. The investigation was undertaken in a sequential manner: preliminary
survey, research assistant training, pre-test, main experiment, and post-test.
The main results of this study was summarized as follows:
First, the traditional nursery rhymes for play enhanced the mother's interactive response to the
infant. Second, the traditional nursery rhymes for play improved the infant's positive interaction
with its mother.
Traditional Korean Nursery Rhymes for Play was a valuable preserver and reservoir of the
age-old wisdom and practices for child-raising in Korean culture, exerting a great influence on
the positive infant-mother relationship. It will be a worthy as well as rewarding job to utilize
those traditional nursery rhymes for infant's educational programs.
