The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of self-esteem on department satisfaction
of early childhood education students as pre-service early childhood teachers. The subject of
this study were 208 early childhood education students who are at the grade of 1, 2, 3 from
H college in J city. In order to measure self-esteem, we used instrument had been modified
and translated by Jeon(1974). Also we used Program Evaluation Survey(devised by university
of Illinois) had been modified and translated by Ha(1999). The collected data were treated
with the SPSS WIN(ver 16.0) program, and t-test, ANOVA and Scheff′e test was conducted to
test the effects. The Research findings and discussions were as follows.
First, we found the level of self-esteem of early childhood education students as pre-service
early childhood teachers is high. And we found the level of self-esteem of students from
liberal high School is higher than the level of self-esteem of students from vocational High
School.
Second, We found early childhood education students as pre-service early childhood teachers
ware satisfied with their department. But the level of their department satisfaction was
dropped depending on rising grades.
Finally, we found the effect of self-esteem on department satisfaction of early childhood
education students as s pre-service early childhood teacher was significant.
