The purposes of this paper were to describe the recent developments of child behavior therapy, and to explore behavioral perspectives of child counseling in Korea. Reviewing the related literatures, it was confirmed that there were five developmental trends in child behavior therapy as following: A growing recognition of the need for a systems perspective to guide behavioral approaches to the treatment of child and family disorders; an increased developmental emphasis in the design and implementation of behavioral approaches; an increased sensitivity to the role of individual differences in moderating the effectiveness of behavior therapy; a heightened interest in the potential utility of clinical diagnosis and empirical assessment as decision aids in formulating effective behavioral counseling; an increased emphasis on prevention, and the development of early intervention with behavioral therapeutic principles for high-risk children. In this context, it was discussed that a growing acceptance of behavioral systems approach and new trends to the child counseling of Korea would expand the range of application of behavioral approaches and enhance the effectiveness of behavioral approaches for children and family disorder in Korea.
