The purpose of this paper is to find practical ways for a field application
and to restore traditional story culture that everyone was the owner of the
story to share and enjoy. So this paper presents a practical model for practical
ways through the case of activities that elementary school students played an
old story.
This activity of playing the old story regard children like the old story as
important active source of the playing the story.
The activity of playing the old story aimed at children was composed of
four steps : Ready to step → Doing the role of second narrator → Doing the
role of narrator → Growing to storyteller
This paper also consider the level of each activity, considering that the
subject of playing activity for the old story, and are building up stage by stage
to reduce participant's psychological burdens due to playing an old story.
Step 1 'Ready to step' is preparation process for playing the old story.
This step was composed of two process : ⑴ To summarize the key
narrative, ⑵ To transform the story of the activity.
Activity ⑴ 'To summarize the key narrative' was performed like this
processes : ① Filling the words, ② Summarizing by the sentence and ③
Applying to find their own way to remember. This activity for the participants
as a narrator can remember the story and learn how to find your own methods
to playing the old story.
Activity ⑵ 'To transform the story of the activity' was composed of two
process : ① Transforming the scene of same story, ② Transforming the story
freely. It is an activity that narrator to acquire activities open and variable
characteristics of the old story naturally.
Step 2 'Doing the role of second narrator' is the process of experiencing
the role of narrator in first step of the center of the listener. It is a step that
participants attended to some role of main narrator and experience the role
of 'second narrator'. This is a narrated step that the whole participants starts
with from small scene like symbolic words as a voice and assume a weighty
role gradually.
Step 3 'Doing the role of narrator' was composed of two process : ⑴ To
experience the role of narrator, ⑵ To strengthen the capacity of narrator. This
step is a leading process that the participant leads the story. That means, this
step is the process of experiencing and expanding the real role of the narrator.
Activity ⑴ 'To experience the role of narrator' was composed of two process
: ① To complete one story with a combination of a short story, ② To complete
one story with several people. This activity can be strengthen the responsibility
for each task undertaken, the situation judgment about before and after the
other participant's playing, and problem-solving skills for unexpected
situations. Because it is to complete one story with several people as team
activities.
Activity ⑵ 'To strengthen the capacity of narrator' is an activity that
participants is to select events by themselves. Participants can experience a
each genre of the old story such as myths, legends, folk tales because it can
be selected to event from each team. Next, each team decided part of their
members and practiced playing an old story. The process of practice is to
playing other teams and team members's events extemporaneously or can be
conducted with playing in a variety of ways such as ,
and .
Step 4 'Growing to storyteller' is the final stage of the playing activity of
the old story and is compose of two process : ① To produce a sound events
of playing the old story, ② To present the events of playing the old story.
Participants has the self-confidence and a sense of accomplishment about to
play the old story with the results of their activities, and grow as storytellers
who can enjoy story through communicate directly with the audience.
Results of this study are as follows through the activity of playing the old
story.
① Various skills have been improved : expression, concentration, creativity
and problem-solving skill
② Participants were recognized that other participants is competitor instead
of partner through team activities.
③ The narration of the old story's open and variable characteristics is
expanding at participants's everyday play again through their play such as
painting and making puppet based on the old story.
④ Recovery possibility of stories culture was discovered through a dialogue
and communication about the activities of playing the old story in each
participants's home.
The activities of playing the old story is to be a part of daily life, this
activities should be continued. Also, to use actually ways played of the old
story is an urgent need to ensure the objectivity of all.
