The aim of this paper is to critically examine the scientistic and positivistic conception of economy based on the thesis of ‘amoralization of economic activities.’ According to this conception, economy is one thing and ethics is quite another, and the latter is an ‘exogenous’ obstacle to the former. This point of view tends to arouse the common prejudice that moneymaking is just moneymaking and so money is to be earned not in a morally good way but just as much as possible, and aggravate the academic positivistic prejudice that economics as an ‘objective’ descriptive science has no connection with the ethics as a ‘subjective’ normative one. Moreover, the unhindered triumphal procession of the egoistic economic activities based on such prejudicial beliefs has shaken the social impartiality due to the equal mutual recognition of human dignity to its foundation. With this critical mind I ascertain the fictitiousness of the thesis of ‘amoralization of economic activities.’ Our daily life is not divided into the philosophical part, on the one hand, and the economic one, on the other hand, and economy is not a self-contained unit separated from life. Economy is life, and hence it is not free from the influences of our moral self-legislation which governs and arranges our life.
