The Purpose of this study was to examine the effects of group art therapy using visual journaling on
self-acceptance & personal growth for art therapy trainees. The participants of this study were 16 trainees
who had studied art therapy at B university continuing education center in A city. They were divided into
the experimental group and the control group. This program lasted from December, 2012 to January, 2013,
twice a week for 8 sessions at the room for group art therapy in A art therapy institute for the
experimental group. Research tool were the sub measures of psychological well-being scale, self-acceptance
scale and personal growth for pre and post test of the program. First, to investigate the equivalence of the
experimental group and control, t-test was carried out, and Paired Samples T-Test was utilized to make
statistical analysis of the effectiveness of art therapy program. Second, the mental state in each sessions
through the linear measure was compared. Third, research tool was K-HTP, before K-HTP was compared
with after K-HTP, and they were analyzed. The conclusion of this study are as follows; First, there was the
positive change on self-acceptance score. Second, there was the positive change on personal growth score.
Third, the mental state in each sessions had the positive changes. Fourth, the results of before and after
K-HTP comparison had positive changes. The group art therapy using visual journaling was effective on
self-acceptance & personal growth for art therapy trainees. Further studies through a variety of method are
needed for art therapist' self-acceptance & personal growth.
