The purpose of this study was to examine any possible differences between two groups of people in general,
who received CPR education in accordance with the 2006 CPR guidelines and the 2011 CPR guidelines respectively, in an
intention of performing CPR and perception of the degree of difficulty of CPR education. Method: The subjects in this study
were the people in general who received CPR education according to the 2006 and 2011 CPR guidelines respectively. They
were asked to fill out the evaluation form provided by Korean Association of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation to assess their
performance, and they were divided into three groups according to the results. One group passed the test, and another
group failed to do that. The third had to receive re-education. The respondents who passed the test were asked to fill out
the questionnaire provided by Korean Association of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation to assess the CPR education they
received. Their answer sheets were gathered immediately after they filled them out, and then the collected data were
analyzed. Results: First, as a result of conducting the survey after they received education to compare the degree of difficulty
of the curriculums, many of the respondents who received education according to the 2011 guidelines replied that it
was easy to learn(p=0.01). Second, concerning a will to use an AED, many of the respondents who received education according
to the 2011 guidelines had an intention to use it(p=003). Third, how much they found it difficult to learn according to
the curriculums was analyzed after all the other variables were controlled, and the respondents who received education according
to the 2011 guidelines found it less difficult than those who received education according to the 2006 guidelines(
p=0.014). Suggestions: First, the prolonged development of more simplified curriculums is required to boost the will of
learners to perform CPR. Second, the development of differentiated curriculums tailored to different age groups is necessary.
Third, the development of programs that aim at teaching learners to keep performing CPR with confidence is required.
