The concept of liberal education has been used in various ways in many parts of society and in educational terms, so that we need to clarify the concept. To do this, above all, I think that the adjective, liberal has to be analyzed first. In everyday language, the preposition that A, a certain man is a liberal man or A is not a liberal man has three criteria of ethics, aesthetics and intellect. We are able to refer, therefore, liberal education is to help the students realize themselves as a unique ethical being, enjoy a beautiful and rich life as a aesthetical being, pursue an unknown world with unending curiousity as an intellectual being. In etymological sense, liberal means liberty and the Greeks thought liberal education is for not a slave but a liberal man. From the Greek Period on, liberal education has been thought to liberate the human mind from the bondage of prejudice, preconceived idea or ignorance. Hutchins' thought in liberal education is to develop reason and wisdom into all the human mind, and so, from above mention liberal education must be essential as science and technology increase more and more rapidly, for we are not able to communicate with others. Consequently we will remain to be an ignorance in a remote and compartmental region.
