영문초록

Ethology, as a scientific discipline based on animal behavior, is beginning to have an impact on professions which deal directly with people in everyday settings . The present paper was an attempt to review the contributions of ethology to the field of educational psychology. In this review its contributions were discussed in four ways, such as (1) the basis of education ; (2) educational objectives ; (3) intelligence tests ; and (4) methodology . The foiling conclusions seem appropriate : 1. Ethology calls attention to the importance of 'critical periods' in the development of behavioral patterns and the resulting psycho-pathology when certain behavior opportunities are not present during critical periods of ontogentic development . 2. One feature of the ethological perspective which should be contributive to the educator in his enterprise is the identification of elements in the environment to which an organism can adapt. 3. Ethologists can inform educational psychologists about certain behavioral invariants or universals which influence main adaptative interaction with his environment. Their insights plus that offered by viewing the total picture in terms of environmental adaptation is ethology's distinct contribution to helping to establish educational objectives 4. Ethological approach to the concept of intelligence and I.Q. illustrates that conventional intelligence tests measure how quickly people can solve relatively unimportant problems rather than measuring how people grapple with relatively important problems. 5. The primary contribution of ethology to realm of methodology lies in the refinement and modification of the method of naturalistic observation which characterizes a major portion of the ethologist's efforts. Particularly, one of the major contributions to mental health sciences is its emphasis or recording, cording, and interpreting nonverbal communication messages.
