The purposes of the study were to ascertain the influential factors to the scientifically gifted by analyzing the characteristics of the scientificaly precocious students in Korea Institute of Technology; find out the psychological characteristics of the scientifically gifted and finally find out the educational implications for the education of them. The subjects in the study were five students at Korea Institute of Korea, who were recommended by their advisors as the best student in their departments. The guestionnaire used to understand the family background and child-rearing practices of the subjects was developed by Korean Institute for Research in the Behavioral Science (KIRBS) in 1980. Tests used for self-concept and IQ were Korean Testing Centers'(KTC). Test used for personality was KIRBS' CPI. All the academic records and files on affective developments from grade school to university were analyzed. Interviews were made with teachers from grade schools through high schools, parents and advisor professors in the Institute. Also, interviews were made with all five students to find out individual psychological (learning, creative and general behavioral) characteristics. Finally, to understand goaldirected behaviors which can not be identified by any standardized tests or interviews. In summary, general behavioral, learning and creative characteristics of the scientifically gifted were identified. For talent development both nature an nuture played an important role mutually. In other words, To be a scientifically gifted he or she must be superior in intellectual ability genetically. Also, the influences of the home leasons(parents enthusiasm, values, etc) and schooling were important factors. To conclude the scientifically gifted are the products of combination of personal task committment, superior intellectual ability, parents' entuhusiasm, good scholling and teachers' positive guidance.
