This paper studied the counselor’s desirable view of human nature in his work. Firstly, three basic psychological view- the psychoanalytic view, the behavioristic view, and the humanistic view - of human nature were surveyed. Secondly, each view’s influences in counseling process were discussed. Some of them could be summarized following as: 1. Psychoanalysts viewed the man as instinctic being and conflicting being between “id” and “superego”. Behaviorists viewed the man as mechanical being run by external environment. Humanistic psychologists viewed the man as conscious, creative, and unique being in which has free agents. 2. Psychoanalytic and behavioristic approach to the counseling could be thought of as manipulative. Counseling goal was viewed as adaptation, counselor as an agent of society and effective manipulator. Humanistic approach to the counseling could be thought of free agent. Counseling goal was viewed as integration, counselor served in facilitating and supportive role only. They attempted to avoid manipulating clients, because a client had the ability to actualize his or her inherent potentialities as much as counselor had. 3. Humanistic view of human nature should be considered more desirable to the counselor than psychoanalytic and behavioristic view.
