The Bender Visual Motor Gestalt, commonly known as The Bender-Gestalt Test, is widely used by clinical psychologists, predominantly for detection of brain damage. In this test, the nine simple designs shown in Figure 1 are presented successively one at a time. The examinee is instructed to copy each design, after the sample placed in front of him. The designs were selected by Bender from a longer series originally employed by Wertheimer, one of the founders of Gestalt School, in his studies of visual perception. The particular designs wers constructed so as to illustrate certain principles of Gestalt psychology, and Bender’s Own analyses of the test results are formulated in terms of Gestalt concepts. The author attempted to estimate the maturation level of emotionally disturbed children with the results of B-G Test, comparing the normal children group which were selected by school teachers. The B-G Test was administered to 112 emotionally disturbed children and 200 normal children whose ages. ranged from 6 years and 9 years. The children were pupils of primary schools. They were divided into the equal number according to sex. The results were scored Pascal’s quantitative method. The author attempted to investigate mainly two factors: one is Mean Raw Score and the other is twenty items which evaluate the certain normal deviation of children. In summary, the author’s conclusions are as follows: 1) Significant differences are found between emotionally disturbed children’s responses and normal children’s responses. Emotionally disturbed children’s maturation levels are lower than normal children’s maturation levels. 2) There were also some differences by ages of emotionally disturbed children, Senior children's maturation levels are higher than junior children’s maturation levels. 3) Significant correlation between results of B-G Test and of the Rorschach Test was observed. 4) It seems to be that emotionally disturbed children’s maturation levels are not much influenced by sexual factor and B-G Test is very useful to estimate maturation level of emotionally disturbed children.
