Human beings develop from leaning. Thus, adults who have had a past
experience of an academic gap would find a significant life meaning when
returning to the pursuit of learning. The purpose of this research is to
understand the meaning of mature aged students' learning experience. By
applying the phenomenological method, this dissertation attempted to draw the
essential meaning of learning experiences from the internal perspective of
research subjects. As a result, the following six components were drawn, (1)
Sorrow treated as a high school graduate; (2) realizing 'myself' through a
learning experience process; (3) the cyclic process of learning experience and
experiential learning; (4) achievement of learning; (5) three-step classified
'reflections' arising throughout the entire learning process; (6) self-sustained
growth towards 'human becoming'. Furthermore, 'life', 'learning' and
'experiences' are in a straight line, learning is performed throughout the entire
life course, and humans can have the power to change themselves by practicing
'human becoming' for living like a human being. This is why learning matters.
Accordingly, human beings have to learn ceaselessly all through their lives.
