The objectives of this study were, first, to examine the effects of humor, social support, working alliance with clients, and working alliance with supervisor on burnout, and second, to determine the mediating effect of social support, working alliance with clients, and working alliance with supervisor on the relation between humor and burnout. First, in order to examine the effectiveness of humor, divided humors into adaptive humors carrying positive meanings and maladaptive ones carrying negative meanings, and analyzed how each style of humor was correlated with each variable. In addition, Based on previous studies, and examined their mediating effects on the relation between humor style and burnout. The results of this study were as follows. First, burnout showed a positive correlation with maladaptive humor and show a significant correlation with adaptive humors. Moreover, burnout showed a negative correlation with social support, working alliance with clients, and working alliance with supervisor. second, humor styles not only directly influenced burnout but also indirectly influenced burnout through working alliance with clients. These results suggest that the positive or negative tendency of humors has a different effect on clients relations, and negative relations increase the risk of burnout while positive relations lower the risk. Lastly, the implications of the findings, the imitations of this study, and tasks for future research were discussed.
