It is natural that the researchers have studied all the scope of "the Tosan 12 Songs", the 12 Sijo Songs written by Yi Hwang in around 1562; from the viewpoint of poetry to that of the philosophy of Neo- Confucianism. I reviewed the main subjects the researchers had written on ""the Tosan 12 Songs" as follows; (1) Researches on the text; its sturucture, aesthetics, way of discourse (2) Comparative study with contemporary poems, poets (3) The background of the Work and the Tradition of Korean character literature (4) Relation to the philosophy of Neo-Confucianism (5) Pedagogy of "the Tosan 12 Songs" (6) Evaluating on Korean literary history On the basis of these research products, we ought to proceed the following tasks; (1) Writing a critical biography of Yi Hwang (2) Comparative study to modern poetry and foreign poetry (3) Understanding the real character of "the Tosan 12 Songs" as literature in life (4) Composing a poetic theory based on Yi Hwang's Li Philosophy When we come to think of what the study on "the Tosan 12 Songs" means, we would know that the real meaning is not lie on the study it on the desk and understand its meaning word-for-word by brain. It would be satisfied only by life itself. The study of "the Tosan 12 Songs" is to writ down the meaning which is found and completed by and through everyday life. And as life goes on, the study of "the Tosan 12 Songs" goes on, too.
