This study is on the qualities and abilities of the counselors in the setting of University. To explore the qualities and abilities, focused group interview was done for the counselors and the survey with three categories (abilities as the counselors, human qualities of the counselors, administrative abilities of the counselors)was done. The result of the focused group interview is that the counselor needs to have a sense of vocation and self-pride for him/herself to work in the University setting because the status of the counselor is low and the working condition of the counselor is poor. The result of survey shows that the qualities that the counselor of the University setting are the healthy psychological state, the ability to conceptualize, intervention skill for the crisis, a sense of ethics, and intervention skills. The University counselors gave importance to the sense of vocation and ethics, openness, self-maintenance skill, and concentration abilities. Based on these results, the author suggests several ideas regarding the training and administrative issues for University counselors.
