대학박물관의 현황과 과제

과거에는 대학박물관이 대학도서관과 함께 대학의 양대 부속시설로 중시되어왔다. 그러나 지금 대학박물관은 국립대에는 ‘형식적으후’ 또 사립대에는 ‘두지 않아도’되는 부속시설로 전락되어 있다 이는 일차적으로 대학설치기준령에서 박물관설치조항이 아예 삭제되어 대학박물관 설치의 근거 가 없어져 버런데다가， 최근에 개정되긴 하였지만， 그간 빅물판 ? 미술관 진흥법에서 조차 대학박물 판은 제외되어 있어 사실상 대학박물관은 그 존럽의 법적 근거가 어디에도 없었기 때문이다1) 이와 같이 대학박물관의 보호 · 육성에 관한 법적 뒷받침이 전혀 없는 참담한 현실에서 그나마도 영맥을 유지할 수 있었던 것은 고고미술사를 전공한 몇몇 연구자들의 정열적이고 헌신적인 노력 덕분이었고， 이것이 바탕이 되어 오늘날의 대학박물관으로 성장할 수 있었다 대학박물관의 기능과 역할은 유물의 수집 ? 전시 · 보관 및 교육을 통한 일반적인 박물관 활동을 수행하연서 일반대학생들에 대한 전통문화교육장 및 전공학생들에 대한 전문교육기관으로서의 역 할을 담딩히눈 한펀 지역사회에 대한 사회교육， 향토사료의 발굴 · 수집 ? 연구， 지역문화재를 보존? 보호하는 활동을 실천하는 것이라 할 수 있다 2) 여기에서는 오늘날 대학박물관이 현재의 여건 속에서 대학박물관으로서의 기능과 역할을 어떻게 수행하고 있는가를 살펴보고 나름대로의 방향을 제시해 보고자 한다 지금까지 대학박물관의 현황 과 발전 방향에 대해서는 많은 논의가 있어 왔지만3 ) 만족할 만한 개선의 노력은 별로 없었던 것 같다 원래는 몇몇 분야에 대해 구체적인 자료를 토대로 분석할 계획이었으나 뜻대로 되지 않았다 따 라서 필요한 자료는 사립학교 박물관의 경우는 최근에 셜문조사한 자료를4 ) 국립대학의 경우는 전 국국립대학교박물관장협의회에서 작성한 『국립대학교 박물관현황』을 분석한 것이고， 그 외에 1992 년에 한국대학박물관협회에서 조사한 내용.5)과 정진봉 선생 논고자료6 )를 많이 참고하였다. 여기서 제시한 분석 빛 통계자로는 한 시점의 것이 아닌데다 초점이 다른 자료도 포함되어 있으 므로 그것이 지니고 있는 성격의 대략만을 의미하고 있음을 밝혀 두며， 동시에 여기에서의 검토대 상으륙 상은 대학박물관은 모든 변에서 정상궤도에 진입해 있는 소수 박물판을 제외한， 평균 정도 이하의 다수 박물관을 주대상으로 하였음을 밝혀둔다.

The functions and roles of university museums are include as an educational institution of traditional culture, sepcialised subject research , social education, local history research , as well as functions and roles of ordinary museums that collecting, preserve, exhibit and educate. This article examine how university museums in Korea manage their functions and roles and propose positive guidelines. Pre닷~t conditiα1 α1 university rnuseurns in Kαea. There are 189 universities in Korea in 1998. 77 university museums (40.7%) are member of The Korean Museum Association. However, about 10 university museums are non member of the Association that there are more then 90 university museums in Korea in 1998. The subjects ar애 당leCialities of university rnuseurns University museums could be an social institution that research local culture or special su비 ects related to local culture within their location as an advance. This fact enable to university museums that have possibility to become a specialised museum in special field . However. the list below shows the subjects that university museums now faced on. 1. Most university museums are very small in size and only a few of them placed in a individual museum building. 2. The condition of exhibition halls and exhibition methods are very poor. 3. Poor condition of the museum storehouse. 4. Lack of conservation system and professions. 5. Lack of museum professionals. 6. Negative activities on social education Positive guidelines to university museurns To improve and develop university museums the list below propose some guideline . 1. Establish more university museums. 2. To have right cognizance of university museum within the university 3. Individual museum building must be provided 4. Planed right research aim of the museum. 5. Museum professionals training course need to be provided 6. Inner-marketing to university also needed First of all . university museums must realise their aim of establishment and should be managed to achieve the original aim. Secondly. because a university museum is a part of the university. they aIso need to keep valance with other functions of the university . Lastly. University museums should give their attention to educate future researchers within one of their function that as an educational institution.
