The ordinary household is full of gods who are present every where . The house master god. the fire god. the house site god . toilet god. god of the gate etc. are omnipresent in the household making it a sacred space . The gods are represented by common symbolic things such as a jar of rice or burley. a water cup. a bunch of straw. or a peace of white paper. All these gods are worshiped regularly by the housewife for the well being of the family and for bringing good luck. The presence of these gods sanctifies the perimeter of the household as a sacred space which controls the activities of the household both religious and profane round the year. (See table below) From above micro-unit (a household) if we to take the entire village consisting of several micro-units we find a network of sacred spaces. But a village also covers agricultural field. forest. mountain. other ecological niche The village with the clusters of houses is invariably a sacred space. Interestingly the households are interconnected due to the presence of a village god either at the center of the village or at the mountain peak which is generally represented by a large tree (the abode of the god). Besides. a natural object such as a rock or a small stone is identified as god itself. In some case a small shrine is made at the back side of the village for preserving and worshiping the small stone identified as god. In the shrine there may be folded paper. a metal horse. a tablet bearing the name of the god. Sometimes a wooden statue or a painting is also seen in the shrine.
