미술관 활동의 선진화를 통한 국내 미술문화발전과 대 (對) 국민 문화향유 제공을 미술관 진 흥의 미션으로 구현하기 위해 2005년 1 월 창립 된 한국사립미술관협회는 국내외 학술연구회 및 세미나 개최, 해외미술관 리서치 및 교류활동, 미술관 정책 조사 및 연구 활동, 미술관 경영 관리에 필요한 연구자문 활동, 사립미 술관 축제 개최, 연구용역보고서 등 단행본 출간, 미술관 협력망 구축을 위한 국 공 사립미술관 협의체 구성, 미술관 교육 사업, 인력지원 사업, 온라 인 매거진 및 뉴스레터 사업 등을 주요 업무로 추진하고 있다 본 협회의 주요 활동과 성과는 크게 문화예술축제, 인력지원 사업, 강좌 시업, 문화예술 프로 그램 지원 사업, 홍보 및 출판 사업 등 5개로 나눌 수 있다 또한 협회가 아닌 외부 단체 나 기관 에서 사립미술관들을 대 상으로 실시한 사업으로는 ‘복권기금 지원 사업’ 과 ‘학예인력 지원 사 업 ’, ‘교육전문 인력양성 지원 사업’ 등이 있다 국내 사립미술관들이 직면하고 있는 가장 큰 문제는 재정난과 인력난이다 국내 사립미술관들 의 재정난은 미술관의 인력난으로 이어지는 악순환을 낳을 수밖에 없다 특히 주5 일 근무제 실시 에 따른 문화향수 욕구가 증대되는 사회적인 분위기는 미술관의 역할을 더욱 절실하게 요구한다 는 점에서 사립미술관의 재정문제 를 더 이상 사립미술관만의 문제로만 방치 할 수는 없는 것이다 지원정책의 추진과제로는 미술관 전문 인력 풀 ( pool)제 시행, 회원미 술관의 신규사원 채용 시 전 (前) 직장 추천제 도입, 학예사 제도 개선과 학예직 교류 및 재교육, 사립미술관에 대한 인식 제고를 위한 대 (對) 국민 캠페인 실시, 미술관 전문 인 력 양성학교 건립 미술관 정책연구소 건립 등이 있다.
