The purpose of the study is to analyze the activities and achievements of Nambowoo(懶庵普雨), a high Buddhist priest in the middle Chosun dynasty. The historical documents on Nambowoo makes it easy for us to study on his religeous thought as well as the activities and achievements. On examining his authors and the historical documents containing Heoeungdangjip(虛應堂集) and historical literature documents ; Mojaejib(幕驚集) etc, one may easily find that his activities were mainly connected with the Buddhism. He was priest since 7 or 8 years old and seeked after truth for 13 years in and around Kumkangsan(金剛山), Sukwangsa(釋王寺). After that he went Hweamsa(橋嚴寺), he was appointed to Seonjopansa(輝宗判事) and Bongeunsa(奉恩寺)' s Master. For less than 20 years, he was made a grate contribution to development of Buddhism in the Chosun Dunasty. He rehabilitated the two traditional Buddhism sect of Seon(?) and Kyo(m He play a great role in the recovery of government evil service examination for priests. His tethers were Uijong(義宗) and Hyunmookheon(玄默野 祖遇). His disciples were Ssangsoon(雙淳), Taegyun(太均), Shinmook(信默) etc. Especially Shinmook was a representative disciple and he was the favors of Samyendyujeong(四溟惟政)' s master. He made intercourse with such high-ranked Buddhist priest as Hebupsa(熙法師), Kyongseonillseon(慶聖一禪), Booyongyoungkwan(芙蓉靈觀) ; the favors of Byoksongjium(碧松智嚴)' s master. Especially He had ardently pursued Naonghaekeun(懶翁慧勤) and Mbohakjaco(無學自超)'s religious feet and so he was perhaps their disciple.
