The purpose of this study is to discuss the meaning, effect ,and the way of
the application of the art program with residency program artists by analyzing
practical cases of art museum education program with artists for local children.
The study has been performed by reviewing literature regarding the role of the art
museum as the educational institution in the local society, and the concept and the
educational meaning of the program with artists. As the practical case of the
education program with artists for local children, the education program with
resident artists of the Youngeun museum of contemporary art was studied in detail
with participant observation and survey of students in the program.
The outcome of the study is the following: First, the art museum education
program with artists for local children provides children with the effective
modeling method. Secondly, it turns the art museum into the place where art
teachers, artists, art educators and students of the local society can communicate
and play together. Thirdly, it promotes the connection between artists and students
to longer relationship even for future careers of students. Finally, it is the valuable
opportunity for students who are less exposed to various cultural events in the
local society to have more art education.
In order to expand the positive effect of art museum education program with
artists, the art museum should be considered as the educational institution, and the
support of the local society as well as the partnership among the art museum,
artists, teachers are required.
