The purpose of this paper is to analyze the military status of Naju in CheonLaDo during the 1693's through its 'Jung Gi'.
This document, created in 1693, was used to confirm the transfer of the weapons, soldiers, and military equipments between the formal and the new county official controllers. It contained derailed inventory of various military weapons and equipments as well as the status of the manpower.
According to the result of the analysis, the military status of the Naju-Mok was found to be solid. The inventory of the document revealed 386 bows, 162 sets of long arrows, sets of short arrows, 12 long spears, 22 short spears, I round shaped handle swords, 1,183 cho-chong rifles, 4,068 kun of gunpowder, and lead coated cannon balls. My analysis of the military status of Naju-Mok indicates that they were short of non-gunpowder traditional weapons, but had sufficient supply of gunpowder weapons. In addition, they also had several different types of tools, flags, lights, uniforms, and signaling devices.
