I recail the smells of newly painted wails and fresh grout in the school building where I arrived as a freshman teacher. Everything else was “on order” for my room which was soon to be filled with excited children. There were neither desks non chairs and, of course, no art supplies. Empty space characterized that first semester, as did foraging in hallways for leftover wire, flooring, systems parts, and unusual packaging materials from nonstop deliveries. Students Immediately learned and eagerly joined in the environmental shopping. I recall my roots of twenty-five years ago, praising in hindsight the art lessons taught to me by necessity.
Shopping for ideas is inseparable from looking through drawers, pockets, pocketbooks for supplies..... There is no such thing as an ordinary art tool, or an ordinary art surface A tool ean become a star, a ringmaster, or an entire circus act BIBLIOGRAPHY
