본 연구에서는 한국 사회과학 분야에서 수행된 문화자본 관련 경험적 연구논문들을 크게 한국사회 문화자본의 속성을 규명하려는 연구, 계급 간 문화자본의 차이를 분석한 연구, 문화 자본의 영향을 분석한 연구, 그리고 학교교육의 장에서 문화자본의 작동 기제를 분석한 연구 로 나누어, 문화자본과 관련하여 어떠한 주제들이 연구되고 있으며, 어떠한 연구 결과들이 산 출되고 있는지 그 동향을 분석하였다. 이어 한국에서 수행된 연구들이 서구에서 문화자본 연 구와 관련하여 제기되고 있는 쟁점들을 어느 정도 고려하고 있는지를 논의하면서 향후 연구를 위한 과제를 제안하였다. 문화자본의 개념화와 조작화, 문화자본과 인적자본의 관계, 한국의 사회적ㆍ교육적 맥락의 특수성, 계급(층)의 분화와 재생산 전략의 차별화, 다문화 사회의 문화 자본 등의 쟁점을 중심으로 한국 연구논문들이 각 쟁점들을 어떻게 반영하고 있으며, 각 쟁점 과 관련하여 어떠한 연구 과제들이 고려되어야 할 지 논의하였다.
This study reviewed empirical researches on cultural capital performed in Korea and examined what subjects had been studied and what results had been produced in Korea, classifying the researches into four categories: (1) studies to identify the kinds and characteristics of cultural capital operating in the Korean society; (2) studies to analyze differences in cultural capital among social classes; (3) studies to analyze the effects of cultural capital; and (4) studies to explore the mechanism through which cultural capital operates in schools. Further, this study discussed how Korean researchers dealt with major issues raised around cultural capital studies in the western society for their own studies, focusing on five major issues: (1) the conceptulization and operationalization of cultural capital, (2) the relationships between cultural capital and human capital, (3) the distinctiveness of the Korean social and educational context, (4) the division of social classes and the differentiation of reproduction strategies by social class, and (5) the cultural capital of the multicultural society. This study also suggested research tasks that Korean researchers should reflect upon when they conduct empirical researches on cultural capital hereafter.
