The purpose of this study was to make clear the school conditions preferred by elementary school teachers and their reasons in time of transference. The research methods were the depths interview and the survey , and research periods was from Oct. 2003 to Feb. 2004. The subjects of this study were 38 teachers working at four elementary school which located in Dae-Jeon Kwangyeogsi. Major findings were as following. The school conditions preferred by elementary school teachers were shown in the order of the commutable distance, school size, climates of schools, whether or not to be designated as a research model school, the better educational environment, and the level of children and their parents. Also, Elementary school teachers preferred the nearest school from home for convenience of commutation, compatibility of job activities and housework. And they preferred the large-scale school, respectable principal and democratic school atmosphere for professional development. On the other hand, it was interesting that there were different contents between the reasons why some teachers apply for the research model school and the others avoid applying for there. In additions, they preferred the school that were environment-friendly, the same level of learning capability and living standards of children, non-meddling parents for their teaching activities.
