The purpose of this study was to find what kinds of employment competencies job applicants need more
by comparing and analyzing the differences of awareness in employment competencies between job applicants
and recruiting managers, and to offer a right direction toward the development of the employment
competencies by apprehending the level of employment needs of corporation. For the purpose, the study
conducted a survey research, statistical analyses, and IPA, in which one hundred fifty job applicants and sixty
recruiting managers participated in the study. The results of the study were as follows:
First, job applicants’ awareness of the level of current competency was statistically lower than that of the
level of the importance in all employment competencies, including all the sub-competencies. This result
revealed that they regarded all employment competencies as important elements for getting a job but their
current level was lower. IPA indicated further that they need the development of sub-competencies in the area
of employment skill. Second, recruiting managers’ awareness of the job applicants’ current level of
competencies was statistically lower than that of the level of employment needs of corporation in most of
employment competencies, except for a few competencies. This result showed that job applicants lack the
preparation of competencies required by corporation. IPA indicated further that they need the development of
sub-competencies in the areas of employment attitude group and job adjustment group. Third, the study
found the awareness difference between job applicants’ level of importance of employment competencies and
recruiting managers’ level of employment needs of employment competencies. IPA indicated that the two
parties’ gap of awareness made a large difference in employment knowledge group and job adjustment group.
Three IPAs results showed that sub-employment competencies seem to have different characteristics in terms of
before and after the employment.
