The Purpose of this study is to examine the effects of using mind-map in word extension
training program on vocabulary and memory of elementary school students with inte1lectual
disability. To achieve this objective, the selected research Questions selected how does using
mind-map in word extension training program influence a vocabulary and memory of
elementary school students with intellectual disability? To solve the above research Questions,
thirty students with intellectual disability at special school and elementary school located in G
do were selected. Fifteen students were assigned in the experimental group and other fifteen
students were assigned in the control group. Using mind-map in word extension training
program was conducted with the experimental group two to three times a week during 20
sessions. During the same session direct teaching was conducted with the control group. The
results of this study are as follows.
First, the experimental group who was condncted using mind-map in word extension training
program obtained higher scores than the control group conducted by the direct instruction on
the post-test. It was found that using mind-map in word extension training program was
effective for improving the vocabulary.
Second, the experimental group who was conducted using mind-map in word extension
training program obtained higher scores than the control group conducted by the direct
instruction on the post-test It was found that using mind-map in word extension training
program was effective for improving the memory.
Therefore, the using mind-map in word extension training program is effective strategy for
improving vocabulary and memory of elementary school students with intellectual disability.
