In this article, the practitioner aims to evaluate the effectiveness of “Concept Categorization
Learning (CCL)” as a lesson theory by analyzing his own lesson record of “What makes Kappa
Ebisen ‘Classic’?”. Two main results are as follows; 1) the author successfully proved CCL
effective in Social Studies at the elementary school level through the lesson analysis. Prior to
this, the author had provided in publication its structure, methods or patterns of CCL, but not
the actual lesson record or the lesson structure of the whole unit due to the limited space. The
detailed lesson record as well as the lesson analysis with the goals, contents, methods of the
unit are provided in this article. Using the lesson structure of the known unit, the effectiveness
of CCL was efficiently demonstrated in the concrete for the future dissemination of CCL. 2) The
lesson analysis of the known unit described clearly the characteristics of CCL learning process.
Based on the knowledge structure diagram and lesson plans, the author analyzed the
relationship between its educational content (learning objectives of the unit) and required
knowledge that shall guide students’ understanding, or between target questions and
knowledge, or the method of scientific verification in learning process. The results confirmed
that the unit contained three known learning processes :problem-solving,
concept-categorization, and deepening social cognition of the attained concept. These findings
should encourage curriculum development using of CCL. Further research will focus on CCL
effectiveness in practices and CCL learning process for wider application.
