The aging mothers, as caregiver, of mental retardation adult children experience to worry in the situation on their health problems, feeling weakness and accidental situation. They might not have planning for their own children, who need still need their caregiving. The mother keep consideration not only to take care of their children but also to look back to themselves, their future planning.
However, it still in the beginning stage that this part of study on the mother of mental retardation adult children in terms of social work literature and human service subject.
Furthermore, since there had been none, in Korea, for study on the caregiving burden of the aging mothers of mental retardation adult children, now it can not be driven to draw the social work intervention. In Korea, it would be assessed that the aging mothers had been lowed to access to social work service. Therefore, to cause for the mothers highly to access the social work service, the useful program should be developed. So, the prerequisite task might be to understand the paradigm about the aging mother caregiving.
This study is to aim, being based upon the literature research on the aging mother of mental retardation adult children: 1) the difference between mothers and fathers in caregiving burden, 2)the difference between the mental retardation young children and the mental retardation adult children in terms of the mother caregiving burden, 3) the mother\'s major stressors, 4) the relationship between the psychological well-being and caregiving, 5) the changing process of American disabled models. Throughout these, the study is to the discuss the social work intervention direction to reduce the mother caregiving burden in Korea.
