29 Pages
5 109-137 (29 pages)
Researchers have typically defined voters’ partisanship as their belonging to a particular party. Alternatively, however, recent researchers have viewed voters’ partisanship as their attitudes toward a party that can range in magnitude. Accordingly, this study examined (1) whether South Korean college students’ attitudes toward political ads can be affected by their attitudes toward the parties and (2) whether the relationship can be moderated by their expectations of the election outcome for... -

South Korea was one of the few countries in the world to face a major outbreak in the first phase of the COVID-19 pandemic. This study portrays the lived experiences of Korean early childhood practitioners striving to thrive between 2020 and 2021. Their stories offer their reflections on their challenges, struggles, and lessons learned throughout the pandemic. Findings reveal that, as time passed, there were longstanding struggles and newly emerging challenges. This study sheds light on early... -

Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2022, Vol.16 No.2 10 203-229 (27 pages)
Universally, Early Childhood Education (ECE) received considerable attention among the stakeholders, and multiple international studies have emphasized the critical nature of the high-quality ECE facilities that integrate learning and play. Several studies have demonstrated the positive influence of decent learning environments on prospects and the comprehensive development of children. This research focuses on play-based learning through gamification to characterize the excellent ECE... -

“The Weight Falls on My Shoulders”: Perceptions of Compassion Fatigue Among Israeli Preschool Teachers
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 22 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2020, Vol.14 No.3 5 91-112 (22 pages)
Compassion fatigue is defined as indirect or secondary trauma that develops among caregivers as a result of their involvement in the trauma state of the individual under their care, to the point that they begin to empathize with and become deeply involved in the other person’s feelings and suffering. The present study evaluated perceptions of compassion fatigue among 15 preschool teachers in Israel by means of qualitative in-depth semi-structured interviews. The study’s findings show that... -
Conceptualisations of Parent Involvement in Early Childhood Education in China
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 24 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2020, Vol.14 No.1 8 169-192 (24 pages)
There is a growing attention for parent involvement in education in general and in early childhood education in particular. The vast majority of scholarly literature is published in English language and originates from Western countries. There is a risk that this may lead to the assumption that mainstream ideas in international literature are globally valid and come to dominate those of other countries, despite cultural differences. We conducted a systematic review of Chinese literature on... -

Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 21 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2020, Vol.14 No.1 3 49-69 (21 pages)
Resilience is defined as a “positive adaption in the face of risk or adversity” (Wright, Masten, & Narayan, 2013). Both the teachers’ resilience and their readiness to develop preschool children’s resilience were examined in the Hong Kong context (n=196). Results from the K-means cluster analysis indicated that Hong Kong preschool teachers had a relatively high level of resilience, with family being a significant contributing factor. These teachers were generally ready to foster children’s... -

of mothering in Korea. Through this process, the paper addresses the intersection between the discourses about mothering and marriage-labor immigrant families in the Korean context. To examine disparities and contradictions that emerged from my multiple ethnographic interviews with Minh between 2013 and 2015, I use Bakhtin’s idea of heteroglossia as an analytic tool. The paper concludes by discussing the need for establishing renewed perspectives on the role of “Koreanness,” the complexities...
