allow them to be widely used as reinforcing materials in advanced polymer composites. The mechanical properties of CF-reinforced polymer composites are governed mainly by the quality of interfacial adhesion between the CFs and the polymer matrix. Surface treatments of CFs are generally carried out to introduce chemical functional groups on the fiber surfaces, which provide the ability to control the surface characteristics of CFs. In this study, we review recent experimental studies concerning... -

In this study, carbonized fibers were prepared by using acidically cross-linked LDPE fibers. The surface morphologies of the carbonized fibers were observed by SEM. The effects of cross-linking process temperatures were studied using thermal analyses such as DSC and TGA. The melting and heating enthalpy of the fibers decreased as the cross-linking temperature increased. The cross-linked fibers had a carbonization yield of over 50%. From SEM results the highest yield of carbonized LDPE-based... -
CO2 adsorption characteristics of slit-pore shaped activated carbon prepared from cokes with high crystallinity

that it consists mainly of slit-like pores. Compared to other textural forms of AC that have higher pore volumes, this slit-poreshaped hc-AC exhibits higher CO2 adsorption due to the similar shape between its pores and CO2 molecules. Additionally, in these high-crystallinity cokes, the main factor affecting CO2 adsorption at lower temperature is the pore structure, whereas the presence of oxygen functional groups on the surface has a greater impact on CO2 adsorption at higher temperature. -
Preparation of sulfonated reduced graphene oxide by radiationinduced chemical reduction of sulfonated graphene oxide

한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2015, Vol.16 No.1 6 41-44 (4 pages)
We report the preparation of sulfonated reduced graphene oxide (SRGO) by the sulfonation of graphene oxide followed by radiation-induced chemical reduction. Graphene oxide prepared by the well-known modified Hummer's method was sulfonated with the aryl diazonium salt of sulfanilic acid. Sulfonated graphene oxide (SGO) dispersed in ethanol was subsequently reduced by γ-ray irradiation at various absorbed doses to produce SRGO. The results of optical, chemical, and thermal analyses revealed that... -
An overview of new oxidation methods for polyacrylonitrile?based carbon fibers
Hye Kyoung Shin, Mira Park, Hak-Yong Kim and Soo-Jin Park 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 8 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2015, Vol.16 No.1 2 11-18 (8 pages)
The process of oxidizing polyacrylonitrile (PAN)-based carbon fibers converts them into an infusible and non-flammable state prior to carbonization. This represents one of the most important stages in determining the mechanical properties of the final carbon fibers, but the most commonly used methods, such as thermal treatment (200°C to 300°C), tend to waste a great deal of process time, money, and energy. There is therefore a need to develop more advanced oxidation methods for PAN precursor... -
A study on elemental mercury adsorption behaviors of nanoporous carbons with carbon dioxide activation

by the self-assembly of polymeric carbon precursors and block copolymer template in the presence of tetraethyl orthosilicate and colloidal silica. The NPCs’ pore structures and total pore volumes were analyzed by reference to N2/77 K adsorption isotherms. The porosity and elemental mercury adsorption of NPCs were increased by activation with carbon dioxide. It could be resulted that elemental mercury adsorption ability of NPCs depended on their specific surface area and micropore fraction. -
Thermal properties in strong hydrogen bonding systems composed of poly(vinyl alcohol), polyethyleneimine, and graphene oxide
Sua Choi, Duck Kun Hwang and Heon Sang Lee 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 8 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2014, Vol.15 No.4 8 282-289 (8 pages)
Blends of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA), polyethyleneimine (PEI), and graphene oxide (GO) were prepared by solution casting method. Calorimetric thermal properties of the blends were investigated. The Tgs of PVA/PEI blends were higher than the Tgs of either of the component polymers at low concentrations of PEI. These abnormal increases of Tgs may be due to the negative entropy of mixing which is associated with strong hydrogen bonding between PVA and PEI. The degree of depression of s was not... -
Overlook of carbonaceous adsorbents and processing methods for elemental mercury removal
Kyong-Min Bae, Byung-Joo Kim and Soo-Jin Park 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 9 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2014, Vol.15 No.4 2 238-246 (9 pages)
People have been concerned about mercury emissions for decades because of the extreme toxicity, persistence, and bioaccumulation of methyl Hg transformed from emitted Hg. This paper presents an overview of research related to mercury control technology and identifies areas requiring additional research and development. It critically reviews measured mercury emissions progress in the development of promising control technologies. This review provides useful information to scientists and engineers... -

The element carbon has been used as a source of energy for the past few hundred years, and now in this era of technology, carbon has played a significant and very prominent role in almost all fields of science and technology. So as an honour to this marvellous element, we humans should know about its various forms of existence. In this review article, we shed light on all possible carbon-allotropes; similarities in their synthesis techniques and the starting materials; their wide range of... -
Enhanced electrocapacitive performance and high power density of polypyrrole/graphene oxide nanocomposites prepared at reduced temperature
Harish Mudila, Varsha Joshi, Sweta Rana, Mohmd. Ghulam Haider Zaidi, Sarfaraz Alam 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 9 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2014, Vol.15 No.3 3 171-179 (9 pages)
An attempt was made to investigate the effect of the preparation temperature on the electrocapacitive performance of polypyrrole (PPY)/graphene oxide (GO) nanocomposites (PNCs). For this purpose, a series of PNCs were prepared at various temperatures by the cetyltrimethylammonium bromide-assisted dilute-solution polymerization of pyrrole in presence of GO (wt%) ranging from 1.0 to 4.0 with ferric chloride as an oxidant. The formation of the PNCs was ascertained through Fourier-transform infrared...
