The Influence of Maternal-Paternal Education Level and Parenting Styles in Children's Reading Skills in an Urban Setting in East Malaysia

conducted to answer RQ2 and RQ3. The results of the study reveal a slight difference between maternal-paternal parenting styles, in which mothers portray more authoritative styles than fathers. Interestingly, only maternal education level predicts children’s reading skills and parenting styles of both do not predict children’s reading skills. Finally, it can be concluded that an Asian-parenting culture could potentially influence child-rearing styles among the urban parents in this setting. -

about their perspectives on child-rearing and preschool involvement. The teachers of their children were also interviewed regarding the nature of the fathers’ participation. The results suggest that activities which involved the whole family are preferred over those which required parental participation only.
