Evidence for Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) as an Excitatory Neurotransmitter in Guinea-Pig Gastric Antrum
TongMookKang, WenxieXu, SungJoonKim, SeungCheolAhn, YoungChulKim, InsukSo, MyoungKyuPark, Dae-YongUhm, KiWhanKim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 10 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1999, Vol.3 No.2 6 165-174 (10 pages)
We explore the question of whether adenosine 5'-triphosphate (ATP) acts as an excitatory neurotransmitter in guinea-pig gastric smooth muscle. In an organ bath system, isometric force of the circular smooth muscle of guinea-pig gastric antrum was measured in the presence of atropine and guanethidine. Under electrical field stimulation (EFS) at high frequencies (>20 Hz), NO-mediated relaxation during EFS was followed by a strong contraction after the cessation of EFS (a... -
Altered Renal Nitric Oxide System in Experimental Hypertensive Rats
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1998, Vol.2 No.4 7 455-460 (6 pages)
The present study was aimed at investigating whether the development of hypertension is related with an altered expression of nitric oxide synthases (NOS) in the kidney. By Western blot analysis, the expression of bNOS and ecNOS isoforms was determined in the kidney of deoxycorticosterone acetate (DOCA)-salt and two-kidney, one clip (2K1C) rats. In DOCA-salt hypertension, the expression of both bNOS and ecNOS was decreased, along with tissue contents of nitrites. In 2K1C hypertension, the... -
Regulation of Mg2+ Release in Guinea Pig Heart and Isolated Ventricular Myocytes by Ձ1-Adrenergic Stimulation

The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1997, Vol.1 No.6 13 717-730 (14 pages)
Mg2 is the fourth most abundant cation in cellular organisms. Although the biological chemistry and the physiological roles of the magnesium ion were well known, the regulation of intracellular Mg2 in mammalian cells is not fully understood. More recently, however, the mechanism of Mg2 mobilization by hormonal stimulation has been investigated in hearts and in myocytes. In this work we have investigated the regulation mechanism responsible for the Mg2 mobilization... -
Endothelin Increases Intracellular Free Calcium in Isolated Rat Nephron
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1997, Vol.1 No.5 12 565-572 (8 pages)
In the freshly isolated rat nephron, the effect of endothelin-1, -2 and -3 (ET-1, -2 and -3) on cytosolic free calcium concentration ([Ca2]i) was determined using the fluorescent indicator Fura-2/AM. [Ca2]i increase was investigated in 9 parts of the single nephron including glomerulus (Glm), S1, S2, S3, cortical and medullary thick ascending limb and cortical (CCT) and outer medullary collecting tubule (OMCT). Endothelins increased [Ca2]i in Glm (ET-1; 127±17%, ET-2;... -

The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 9 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1997, Vol.1 No.5 3 485-493 (9 pages)
We investigated the effect of α-adrenergic and cholinergic receptor agonists on Ca2 current in adult rat trigeminal ganglion neurons using whole-cell patch clamp methods. The application of acetylcholine, carbachol, and oxotremorine (50 ㄍM each) produced a rapid and reversible reduction of the Ca2 current by 17⁑6%, 19⁑3%, and 18⁑4%, respectively. Atropine, a muscarinic antagonist, blocked carbachol- induced Ca2 current inhibition to 3⁑1%.... -
Regulatory Role of Cyclic Nucleotides in Non-Adrenergic Non-Cholinergic Relaxation of Lower Esophageal Sphincter from Dogs
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 11 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1997, Vol.1 No.3 9 303-313 (11 pages)
The role of the lower esophageal sphincter(LES) is characterized by the ability to maintain tone and to relax allowing the passage of a bolus. It is known that LES relaxation during swallowing may be induced by the cessation of the tonic neural excitation and the activation of non-adrenergic, non-cholinergic(NANC) inhibitory neurons. Furthermore, it is generally accepted that the relaxation of the smooth muscle is mediated primarily by the elaboration of adenosine 3',5'-cyclic... -
Two Types of Voltage-dependent Outward Potassium Currents in Smooth Muscle Cells of Rabbit Basilar Atery
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 15 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1997, Vol.1 No.2 7 169-183 (15 pages)
We have investigated the two types of voltage-dependent outward potassium (K) currents, i.e. delayed rectifier K current (IK(V)) and 'A-like' transient outward K current (Ito) with patch-clamp technique in single smooth muscle cells (SMCs) isolated from rabbit basilar artery, and investigated the characteristics of them. The time-courses of activation were well fitted by exponential function raised to second power (n2) in IK(v) and fourth power (n4) in Ito. The activation, inactivation and... -

The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1997, Vol.1 No.2 4 143-149 (7 pages)
We studied the effects of ginseng protopanaxadiol (PD) and protopanaxatriol (PT) saponins on the analgesia using several pain tests such as writhing, formalin, and tail-flick test. Using mouse, pretreatment of PD or PT saponins (i.p.) induced inhibition of abdominal constrictions caused by 0.9% acetic acid administration(i.p.). The AD50 was around 27 (17-43) mg/kg for PD and 13.5 (3-61) mg/kg for PT saponins in writhing test. Both PD and PT saponins also showed the inhibition of bitings and... -

In the present study, it was aimed to further indentify the intracellular action mechansm of cromakalim and levcromakalim in the porcine coronary artery. In intact porcine coronary arterial strips loaded with fura-2/AM, acetylcholine caused an increase in intracellular free Ca2 ([Ca2]i) in association with a contraction in a concentration-dependent manner. Cromakalim (1 ㄍM) caused a reduction in acetylcholine-induced increased [Ca2]i not only in the mormal...
