‘앞‘, ‘뒤‘는 공간말 중 가장 기본이 되는 말이다. 그래서 그 의미 는 공간적, 시간적, 추상적인 것 등 다양한 양상을 보인다. 이 글은 이 같은 ‘앞, 뒤‘의 다양한 의미를 시대적인 추이에 따라 좇아본 것이다. 그 결과 아래와 같은 결론을 얻었다. 첫째, ‘앞, 뒤‘는 언해 과정에서 차이가 있다. ‘前‘은 대부분 ‘앞‘으로 언해가 되는 반면, ‘後‘는 ‘뒤‘로 언해되지 않 는 경우가 훨씬 많다. 이는 ‘앞, 뒤‘의 의미 전개에 큰 영향을 미치는 것으로 보았다. 둘째, 현대국어와는 달리, 중세와 근대국어에서 ‘뒤‘는...
