DCF에서는 binary slotted exponential backoff 기반의 CSMA/CA기법을 사용한다. 이 기법에는 컨텐션 윈도우의 크기가 매 충돌발생시 지수함수적으로 증가하기 때문에 충돌확률을 줄이는 데는 아주 효과적이다. 하지만 이로 인하여 데이터의 전송지연이 발생하는 원인이 되기도 한다. 본 논문에서는 채널의 활용도를 고려하여 컨텐션 윈도우의 크기를 동적으로 변화시키는 새로운 백오프기법을 제안한다. 이 기법은 프로토콜의 처리성능을 향상시키고 패킷의 평균 전송지연시간을 감소시킬 것이다. -
