a non-selective P2 receptor antagonist, reduced the contraction induced by EFS. NF023 (10−7∼10−4 M), a selective P2X antagonist, inhibited the contraction evoked by EFS. Reactive blue (10−6∼10−4 M), selective P2Y antagonist, also blocked the contraction in a dose-dependent manner. In addition, P2X agonist Ձ,Ղ-methylene 5'-adenosine triphosphate (ՁՂMeATP, 10−7∼10−5 M) potentiated EFS-induced contraction in a dose-dependent... -
Gender-Related Differences in a Process of the Age-Dependent Alterations of the Elements in Monkey Sino-Atrial Node
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2010, Vol.14 No.5 1 249-256 (8 pages)
Gender differences in the trace elements of monkey sino-atrial (SA) node were investigated in a process of age-dependent alterations. Sixty hearts from Japanese and rhesus monkeys (30 male and 30 female) used were aged ranging from 1-day- to 30-year-old. The elements were analyzed using an inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometer (ICP-AES). Advancing age decreased all the trace elements. Ca, P, S and Mg significantly decreased. The correlation coefficients of Ca and P were... -
Hyperosmotic Stimulus Down-regulates 1α, 25-dihydroxyvitamin D3- induced Osteoclastogenesis by Suppressing the RANKL Expression in a Co-culture System

a reduced number of 1Ձ,25(OH)2D3-induced tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase-positive multinucleated cells and 1Ձ,25(OH)2D3-induced bone-resorbing pit area in a co-culture system. In osteoblastic cells, receptor activator of nuclear factor ՊB ligand (RANKL) and Runx2 expressions were down-regulated in response to 1Ձ,25(OH)2D3. Knockdown of Runx2 inhibited 1Ձ,25(OH)2D3-induced RANKL expression in osteoblastic cells. Finally, the hyperosmotic stimulus induced the... -
Fenofibrate Reduces Age-related Hypercholesterolemia in Normal Rats on a Standard Diet
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 5 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2010, Vol.14 No.2 3 77-81 (5 pages)
Plasma cholesterol is increased in normal aging in both rodents and humans. This is associated with reduced elimination of cholesterol and decreased receptor-mediated clearance of plasma low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol. The aims of this study were: (1) to determine age-related changes in plasma lipid profiles, and (2) to determine the effect of fenofibrate, an activator of peroxisome proliferator activated receptor alpha (PPAR Ձ), on plasma lipid profiles in normal rats on a... -

(a cytoplasmic Ca2+-ATPase inhibitor, 10ՌM) were significantly reduced, respectively. In the simultaneous presence of PCRC (60Ռg/ml) and L-NAME (an inhibitor of NO synthase, 30ՌM), the inhibitory responses of PCRC on the CA secretion evoked by ACh, high K+, DMPP, and Bay-K-8644 were considerably recovered to the extent of the corresponding control secretion compared with that of PCRC-treatment alone. The level of NO released from adrenal medulla after the treatment of PCRC... -
Deficiency of iNOS Does Not Prevent Isoproterenol-induced Cardiac Hypertrophy in Mice
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2009, Vol.13 No.3 3 153-159 (7 pages)
deficiency of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) could prevent isoproterenol-induced cardiac hypertrophy in iNOS knockout (KO) mice. Isoproterenol was continuously infused subcutaneously (15 mg/kg/day) using an osmotic minipump. Isoproterenol reduced body weight and fat mass in both iNOS KO and wild-type mice compared with saline-infused wild-type mice. Isoproterenol increased the heart weight in both iNOS KO and wild-type mice but there was no difference between iNOS KO and wild-type mice.... -
Effects of Somatostatin on the Responses of Rostrally Projecting Spinal Dorsal Horn Neurons to Noxious Stimuli in Cats
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2008, Vol.12 No.5 6 253-258 (6 pages)
Somatostatin (SOM) is a widely distributed peptide in the central nervous system and exerts a variety of hormonal and neural actions. Although SOM is assumed to play an important role in spinal nociceptive processing, its exact function remains unclear. In fact, earlier pharmacological studies have provided results that support either a facilitatory or inhibitory role for SOM in nociception. In the current study, the effects of SOM were investigated using anesthetized cats. Specifically, the... -
Attenuated Sympathetic Activity and Its Relation to Obesity in MSG Injected and Sympathectomized Rats
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2007, Vol.11 No.4 4 155-161 (7 pages)
Fat mass at 60 weeks was inversely correlated with changes in sympathetic activity between 25 and 60 weeks. Reduced plasma epinephrine levels by bilateral adrenal demedullation induced increase of fat mass. In summary, an attenuated increase of sympathetic activity with age may partly be responsible for aggravated obesity in MSG rats. These results suggest that lower sympathetic activity contributes to obesity in rats. -
Changes of Hemodynamics and Renal Function due to Acute Cadmium Exposure in Rats
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2006, Vol.10 No.3 4 137-142 (6 pages)
The systolic and diastolic pressures in anesthetized Sprague-Dawley male rats were greatly decreased after single-dose of Cd treatment without significant changes in heart rate. There was a fluid-shift into the third space and/or -loss through the kidney, since plasma Na concentration and hematocrit ratio were significantly increased by acute Cd exposure. The present study showed that the sustained hypotensive effect of single-dose Cd on the cardiovascular system might have resulted from... -
