Much is known about the skills that young children need to be successful readers. The literature identifies two kinds of skills that are key to young children’s language and literacy development: meaning-related skills and code-related skills. This article focuses on one of these key skills: meaning-related skills. It provides an overview of what is known about the importance of young children’s language development to children’s success as readers and describes several evidence-based... -

Megan Adams 환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 23 Pages
환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2014, Vol.8 No.2 8 129-151 (23 pages)
Much of the literature on Third Culture Kids (TCKs) is focussed on negative emotions that children and adults experience during an international transition. Few studies were found that draw on a cultural historical reading of emotions during an international transition. This paper seeks to fill the gap by presenting a study of a young child and her family transitioning into Malaysia as expatriates and looks at the individual and collective emotions present at home and school during the... -

This article discusses issues of technology, interactive media and preschool education related to the areas of early language and literacy. From discussions with other researchers and practitioners, we suspect that the status, situations, and children’s reactions to technology reported on here apply widely across disciplines and curricular areas in early childhood. We focus first on current research related to the role of technology in preschool children’s early language and literacy... -

환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2009, Vol.3 No.2 5 89-104 (16 pages)
This study examined male teachers’ identities and experiences as early childhood teachers in South Korea. Three South Korean participants, Donghun, Gijun, and Minsu (pseudonyms) were purposefully selected and engaged in individual semi- structured interviews lasting about an hour and a half. Findings in this study indicated that entering into the female-dominated profession of early childhood education is an uneasily constrained and cultural process for them.
