on the leaf epidermis between silicon treated (25.79%) and non treated plants (7.87%) indicating that Si-fertilization resulted in higher deposition of Si in silica cells in comparison with non-treated plants. Application of silicon also led to a significant increase in Si contents of leaves. Contrast procedures indicated higher efficiency of silica gel in comparison to sodium silicate in almost all parameters assessed. The results suggest that mitigated levels of disease were associated with... -
Antimicrobial and Antioxidant Properties of Secondary Metabolites from White Rose Flower

those cells at higher concentration (>0.5 mg/mL). FITC-conjugated Annexin V stain provided further evidence that WRFE had strong antimicrobial activity, which may have resulted from a cooperative synergism between volatiles (e.g. 1-butanol, dodecyl acrylate and cyclododecane) and phenolic compounds (e.g. gallic acid) retained in WRFE. In conclusion, secondary metabolites from white rose flower hold promise as a potential natural source for antimicrobial and non-chemical based antioxidant agents. -

in their decision making and therefore those views should be drawn attention to in biology education. Therefore Research Questions are following. (1) What are the views of life or living things? (2) What are the cases which express each era's views of living things in the history of science? Therefore diverse views of living things that emerged in the development process of biology were theoretically analyzed. Also cases in the history of biology were collected through research on literature on... -
The influence of water characteristics on the aquatic insect and plant assemblage in small irrigation ponds in Civilian Control Zone, Korea
Jae Hyun Kim, Hyun Yong Chung, Seoung Ho Kim, Jae Geun Kim 한국습지학회 한국습지학회지 11 Pages

including 63 wetland plants and 95 aquatic insect taxa were recorded. Six rare plant species and four rare aquatic insect species were identified. The stagnation-spring type had the highest species richness. There was no correlation between size and species richness. Multivariate analyses showed distinctive species assemblages among the irrigation pond types. This would indicate that water chemical change at annual cycle and connection influenced on the species assemblages in irrigation pond. In... -
A study on the Gunas in S??khya philosophy and Bhagavadg?t?

the characteristics and functions of the gunas. S??khya and Bhagavadg?t? agree in the sense that the Ultimate Reality is beyond the gunas, but the difference is that in S??khya, the gunas never associate with it while in the Bhagavadg?t? they do. The gunas given by S??khya function as the metaphysical features compared to psychic features. Whereas the gunas in the Bhagavadg?t? function as the psychic features compared to cosmic aspects. The reasons have been discussed in respect to the existence... -

social needs in the school curriculum, with the aim of changing future society. The vision of the 2015 revised curriculum can be summarized as “cultivating the creative convergence competences required for future society” and “implementing interesting learning through improving the quality of learning experiences.” The 2015 science curriculum is divided into two parts: the common curriculum and the elective curriculum. In this paper, the details of the 2015 science curriculum are reviewed. -
Religious Education and Human Rights in Europe:Focusing on the Cases of Belgium and the Netherlands

in secondary education. The most notable example is the ban on the wearing of headscarves, which is seen as an infringement of religious freedom by some. While the “headscarves” issue is the most studied problem in connection with human rights and secondary education in Europe, it is in fact peripheral to the problem of “religious education” itself. This article argues that debates on human rights and religious education should take into consideration the historical development of “religio... -
Influence of nitric oxide on in vitro growth, survival, steroidogenesis, and apoptosis of follicle stimulating hormone stimulated buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) preantral follicles

growth, antrum formation, follicular oocyte maturation, and stimulated progesterone secretion compared to the control. A combination of SNP + L-NAME promoted the inhibitor effect of SNP while a SNP + Hb combination reversed this effect. Nitrate and nitrite concentrations in the culture medium increased (p < 0.05) in a dose- dependent manner according to SNP concentration in the culture medium. At higher concentrations, SNP had a cytotoxic effect leading to follicular oocyte apoptosis whereas... -
Cigarette Smoke Extract-induced Reduction in Migration and Contraction in Normal Human Bronchial Smooth Muscle Cells

This study investigated the effect of CSE on cell viability, migration, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-Ձ secretion, and contraction in normal human bronchial smooth muscle cells (HBSMCs). Treatment of HBSMCs with 10% CSE induced cell death, and the death was accompanied by the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). CSE-induced cell death was reduced by N-acetyl-l-cysteine (NAC), an ROS scavenger. In addition, CSE reduced the migration ability of HBSMCs by 75%. The combination of NAC...
