Effects of PCB Congeners in Rodent Neuronal Cells in Culture
Sun-YoungKimJae-HoYang 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2005, Vol.9 No.1 2 9-16 (8 pages)
We attempted to analyze the mechanism of polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB)-induced neurotoxicity and identify the target molecules in the neuronal cells for PCBs.Since the developing neuron is particularly sensitive to PCB-induced neurotoxicity, we isolated cerebellar granule cells derived from 7-day old Sprague Dawley (SD) rats and grew cells in culture for additional 7 days to mimic PND-14 conditions. Only non-coplanar PCBs at a high dose showed a significant increase of total protein kinase C... -
Involvement of NAD(P)H Oxidase in a Potential Link between Diabetes and Vascular Smooth Muscle Cell Proliferation
HyeYoungJeong, MiRanYun, ChiDaeKim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2003, Vol.7 No.2 9 103-109 (7 pages)
The cellular mechanisms that contribute to the acceleration of atherosclerosis in diabetes are poorly understood. Therefore, the potential mechanisms involved in the diabetes-dependent increase in vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) proliferation was investigated. Using primary culture of VSMC from streptozotocin-induced diabetic rat aorta, cell proliferation assay showed two-fold increase in cell number accompanied with enhanced superoxide generation compared to normal VSMC, 2 days after... -
Minimal Amount of Insulin Can Reverse Diabetic Heart Function Sarcoplasmic Reticulum Ca2+ Transport and Phospholamban Protein Expression

all. Thus, the decreased SR Ca2 uptake appear to be largely attributed to the decreased SR Ca2-ATPase level, which is further impaired due to the inhibition by the increased level of phospholamban. These results indicate that insulin is involved in the control of intracellular Ca2 in the cardiomyocyte through multiple target proteins via multiple mechanisms for the decrease in the mRNA for both SR Ca2-ATPase and phospholamban which are unknown and needs further study. -
Characteristic Intracelluar Response to Lidocaine And MK-801 of Hippocampal Neurons An In Vivo Intracellular Neuron Recording Study

and late-IPSP were putative Cl-and K-dependent, respectively. Systemic injection of the NMDA receptor blocker, MK-801, did not block synaptic responses to the stimulation of the commissural pathway. No significant modifications of EPSP, early-IPSP, or late-IPSP components were detected in the MK-801 and/or lidocaine treated group. These results suggest that MK-801 and lidocaine manifest their CNS effects through firing pattern of hippocampal pyramidal cells and neural network... -
Two Types of Voltage-dependent Outward Potassium Currents in Smooth Muscle Cells of Rabbit Basilar Atery

and inactivation of IK(V) was at the more hyperpolarized range than that of Ito contrary to the reports in other vascular SMCs. Tetraethylammonium chloride (TEA; 10 mM) markedly inhibited IK(V) but little affected Ito. 4-Aminopyridine (4-AP) had similar inhibitory potency on both currents. While a low concentration of Cd2+ (0.5 mM) shifted the current- voltage relationship of Ito to the positive direction without change of maximum conductance, Cd2+ did not cause any appreciable change for IK(V). -
Effects of Extracellular Ca++on PKC or cAMP-stimulated Increases in LH Release and LHβSubunit mRNA Levels in Rat Anterior Pituitary Cells

of Ca++ mobilization from extracellular environment, after the treatment of EGTA as a Ca++ chelator or verapamil as a Ca++ channel blocker. PMA-stimulated LHβ subunit mRNA levels were also suppressed by the treatment of EGTA and verapamil, while PMA-induced LH release was not affected. From the present study, it is, therefore, suggested that PKC activation and cAMP elevation all stimulate LHβ subunit mRNA levels and these are extracellular Ca++-dependent. However, LH releases by PKC activation... -
The Effects of Prolactin and Vasopressin on the Regulation of Amniotic Fluid Volume and Its Na+ Concentration through the Membrane Surrounding Amniotic Fluid

in [Na+] but it aIways moved + out of the amniotic sac even when the [Na+] increased in vasopressin injected AF. From the above results, it is suggested that vasopressin in the AF triggers the fetus to urinate, and then the membranes surrounding the AF regulate osmolarity by efflux of Na+. We suggest that prolactin facilitates water outflow across the amniotic membrane during increase in AF volume, in contrast to a constant volume, whereas regulation of [Na+] is partly restricted by prolactin. -
Rapid Measurement of NH3 and Weak Acid Permeation Through Liposomes and Renal Proximal Tubule Membranes
Bae, Hae-Rahn, Suh, Duck-Joon, Lee, Sang-Ho 대한생리학회 대한생리학회지 12 Pages
대한생리학회 대한생리학회지 1994, 제 28권 제 2호 11 203-214 (12 pages)
Using the methods of stopped-flow and epifluorescence microscopy with entrapped fluorophore, membrane permeability of NH3 and weak acids in liposomes, renal brush border (BBMV) and basolateral membrane vesicles (BLMV), and primary culture cells from renal proximal tubule was measured. Permeability coefficient (cm/sec) of NH3 was (2.9 X 10-2 in phosphatidylcholine liposome 25℃), 5.9 X 10-2 in renal proximal tubule cell (37℃), 4.0 X 10-2 and 2.4 X 10-2 in BBMV and BLMV (25℃), respectively....
