A Comparison of Shortening and Shortening Speed in Sartorius, Gastrocnemius and Rectus Abdominis Muscles of Uromastix hardwickii
10 Pages
6 61-70 (10 pages)
recorded at resting length. In addition to this, maximum shortening (Smax) and auxotonic tensions were also determined at resting lengths of these muscles. The COLS was found to express the speed of shortening and auxotonic tensions are suggested to be of value to express the internal architecture of SAR, GAS & RAB muscles. The results are discussed in terms of contractile and elastic elements of the muscles alongwith the importance of shortening at resting lengths in skeletal muscles. -
Ventilatory Responses to Continuous Negative Pressure Breathing(CNPB) in Awake Dogs
14 Pages
4 37-50 (14 pages)
air breathing. When CNPB was applied during 5% CO2 inhalation, the decrease in EELV was not significantly different (p<0.5) from that during air breathing. As a result of a lowered EELV, tidal volume (VT) significantly decreased by 22% and breathing frequency (fB) increased by 68% in the steady state during air breathing (p<0.0001). These responses were similar during 5% CO2 inhalation, thus the CO2 response curve measured during CNPB shifted upward without a change in sensitivity (p>0.05). Thes... -
Bisphosphonate induced osteonecrosis on the peri-implantation area : A case report
Hyo-Jeong Son, Ho-Yeol Jang, Jang-Yeol Lee, Hyun-Jeong Ahn, Hyoun-Chull Kim, Il-Hae Park, Sang-Chull Lee 대한치과이식임플란트학회 Journal of Dental Implant Research 6 Pages
9 66-71 (6 pages)
Every year, an estimated 30 million bisphosphonate prescriptions are written in the U.S. alone. It is estimated that pamidronate and zoledronate have been used in over 2.5million patients worldwide1). Some patients who have Paget's disease and osteolysis with metastatic bone disease may not be able to survive without bisphosphonate therapy. Others suffered from a osteoporosis may develop further spontaneous fractures if bisphosphonates are discontinuated. -
Bacterial Community Structure and the Dominant Species in Imported Pollens for Artificial Pollination
Su-Hyeon Kim, Heeil Do, Gyeongjun Cho, Da-Ran Kim, Youn-Sig Kwak The Plant Pathology Journal 8 Pages
9 299-306 (8 pages)
Pollination is an essential process for plants to carry on their generation. Pollination is carried out in various ways depending on the type of plant species. Among them, pollination by insect pollinator accounts for the most common. However, these pollinators have be decreasing in population density due to environmen- tal factors. Therefore, use of artificial pollination is increasing. However, there is a lack of information on microorganisms present in the artificial pollens. We showed the... -
Development of a Daily Epidemiological Model of Rice Blast Tailored for Seasonal Disease Early Warning in South Korea
The Plant Pathology Journal 12 Pages
3 406-417 (12 pages)
Early warning services for crop diseases are valuable when they provide timely forecasts that farmers can utilize to inform their disease management decisions. In South Korea, collaborative disease controls that utilize unmanned aerial vehicles are commonly performed for most rice paddies. However, such controls could benefit from seasonal disease early warnings with a lead time of a few months. As a first step to establish a seasonal disease early warning service using seasonal climate... -
An Integrated Modeling Approach for Predicting Potential Epidemics of Bacterial Blossom Blight in Kiwifruit under Climate Change
The Plant Pathology Journal 14 Pages
7 459-472 (14 pages)
The increasing variation in climatic conditions under climate change directly influences plant-microbe interactions. To account for as many variables as possible that may play critical roles in such interactions, the use of an integrated modeling approach is necessary. Here, we report for the first time a local impact assessment and adaptation study of future epidemics of kiwifruit bacterial blossom blight (KBB) in Jeonnam province, Korea, using an integrated modeling approach. This study... -
Effect of Producing Different Phenazines on Bacterial Fitness and Biological Control in Pseudomonas chlororaphis 30-84
The Plant Pathology Journal 15 Pages
5 44-58 (15 pages)
Pseudomonas chlororaphis 30-84 is a biological control agent selected for its ability to suppress diseases caused by fungal pathogens. P. chlororaphis 30-84 produces three phenazines: phenazine-1-carboxylic acid (PCA), 2-hydroxy-phenazine-1-carboxylic acid (2OHPCA) and a small amount of 2-hydroxy-phenazine (2OHPHZ), and these are required for fungal pathogen inhibition and wheat rhizosphere competence. The two, 2-hydroxy derivatives are produced from PCA via the activity of a phenazine-modifying... -
Pathological Interrelations of Soil-Borne Diseases in Cucurbits Caused by Fusarium Species and Meloidogyne incognita
The Plant Pathology Journal 14 Pages
7 410-423 (14 pages)
Pathological interrelations of two soil-borne diseases in cucurbits (watermelon, oriental melon, shintosa and cucumber) caused by Fusarium isolates (FI) and the root-knot nematode (RKN), Meloidogyne incognita were characterized by the fusarium disease severity index (DI), RKN gall index (GI) and eggmass index (EI) in inoculation tests using FI and RKN. Virulence of FI as determined by DI at 4 weeks after inoculation was mostly in the higher order of Fusarium proliferatum F6, F5 and Fusarium... -
Characterization of the Rosellinia necatrix Transcriptome and Genes Related to Pathogenesis by Single-Molecule mRNA Sequencing
The Plant Pathology Journal 8 Pages
2 362-369 (8 pages)
White root rot disease, caused by the pathogen Rosellinia necatrix, is one of the world’s most devastating plant fungal diseases and affects several commercially important species of fruit trees and crops. Recent global outbreaks of R. necatrix and advances in molecular techniques have both increased interest in this pathogen. However, the lack of information regarding the genomic structure and transcriptome of R. necatrix has been a barrier to the progress of functional genomic research...
