Photocatalytic degradation and antibacterial investigation of nano synthesized Ag₃VO₄ particles @PAN nanofibers
Prem Singh Saud, Zafar Khan Ghouri, Bishweshwar Pant, Taehee An, Joong Hee Lee, Mira Park, Hak-Yong Kim 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 7 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.18 5 30-36 (7 pages)
decorated by Ag₃VO₄ nanoparticles. Photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue investigated in an aqueous solution under irradiation showed 99% degradation of the dye within 75 min. Finally, the antibacterial performance of Ag₃VO₄ nanoparticles @PAN composite nanofibers was experimentally verified by the destruction of Escherichia coli. These results suggest that the developed inexpensive and functional nanomaterials can serve as a non-precious catalyst for environmental applications. -
Flexural properties, interlaminar shear strength and morphology of phenolic matrix composites reinforced with xGnP-coated carbon fibers
Jong Kyoo Park, Jae Yeol Lee, Lawrence T. Drzal, Donghwan Cho 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 6 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.17 No.1 5 33-38 (6 pages)
matrix composites were investigated in terms of their longitudinal flexural strength and modulus, interlaminar shear strength, and by optical and scanning electron microscopic observations. The results were compared with a phenolic matrix composite counterpart prepared without xGnP. The flexural properties and interlaminar shear strength of the xGnP-coated carbon fiber/phenolic matrix composites were found to be higher than those of the uncoated composite. The flexural and interlaminar shear... -

Influence of laminated orientation on the mechanical and thermal characteristics of carbon-fiber reinforced plastics
Hee-Jae Shin, Lee-Ku Kwac, Min-Sang Lee, Hong-Gun Kim 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 6 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2015, Vol.16 No.4 3 241-246 (6 pages)
In this context, carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) composite materials are being extensively used. However, laminated CFRPs develop faults during impact because CFRPs are composed of mixed carbon fiber and epoxy. Moreover, their fracturing behavior is very complicated and difficult to interpret. In this paper, the effect of the direction of lamination in CFRP on the absorbed impact energy and impact strength were evaluated, including symmetric ply (0°/0°, ?15°/+15°, ?30°/+30°,... -
Effects of cross-linking methods for polyethylene-based carbon fibers: review
Kwan-Woo Kim, Hye-Min Lee, Jeong-Hun An, Byoung-Suhk Kim, Byung-Gak Min, Shin-Jae Kang, Kay-Hyeok An, Byung-Joo Kim 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 24 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2015, Vol.16 No.3 2 147-170 (24 pages)
In recent decades, there has been an increasing interest in the use of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) in aerospace, renewable energy and other industries, due to its low weight and relatively good mechanical properties compared with traditional metals. However, due to the high cost of petroleum-based precursors and their associated processing costs, CF remains a specialty product and as such has been limited to use in high-end aerospace, sporting goods, automotive, and specialist... -
Mechanisms of Na adsorption on graphene and graphene oxide: density functional theory approach
Hye Sook Moon, Ji Hye Lee, Soonchul Kwon, Il Tae Kim, Seung Geol Lee 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 5 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2015, Vol.16 No.2 7 116-120 (5 pages)
We investigated the adsorption of Na on graphene and graphene oxide, which are used as anode materials in sodium ion batteries, using density functional theory. The adsorption energy for Na on graphene was -0.507 eV at the hollow sites, implying that adsorption was favorable. In the case of graphene oxide, Na atoms were separately adsorbed on the epoxide and hydroxyl functional groups. The adsorption of Na on graphene oxide-epoxide (adsorption energy of -1.024 eV) was found to be stronger than... -
Conducting and interface characterization of carbonate-type organic electrolytes containing EMImBF4 as an additive against activated carbon electrode
Mingyeong Kim, Kyungmin Kim and Seok Kim 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 6 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2015, Vol.16 No.1 8 51-56 (6 pages)
Carbonate-type organic electrolytes were prepared using propylene carbonate (PC) and dimethyl carbonate (DMC) as a solvent, quaternary ammonium salts, and by adding different contents of 1-ethyl-3-methyl imidazolium tetrafluoroborate (EMImBF4). Cyclic voltammetry and linear sweep voltammetry were performed to analyze conducting behaviors. The surface characterizations were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy method and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. From the experimental results,... -
Effect of surface treatment of graphene nanoplatelets for improvement of thermal and electrical properties of epoxy composites
Minjae Kim, Yeongseon Kim, Sung Hyeon Baeck and Sang Eun Shim 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 7 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2015, Vol.16 No.1 5 34-40 (7 pages)
In this study, in order to improve the thermal and electrical properties of epoxy/graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs), surface modifications of GNPs are conducted using silane coupling agents. Three silane coupling agents, i.e. 2-(3,4-epoxycyclohexyl)-ethyltrimethoxysilane (ETMOS), 3-glycidoxypropyltriethoxysilane (GPTS), and 3-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane (GPTMS), were used. Among theses, GPTMS exhibits the best modification performance for fabricating GNP-incorporated epoxy composites. The effect...
