Early Mathematical Learning: Number Processing Skills and Executive Function at 5 and 8 Years of Age
Sonia L. J. White, Donna Berthelsen, Sue Walker, Kate E. Williams 환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 22 Pages
환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2015, Vol.9 No.3 4 45-66 (22 pages)
time, on the tasks of number comparison, calculation, shifting, and inhibition but not on number line estimation. The components of executive function (shifting, inhibition, and working memory) showed different patterns of correlation to performance on number processing tasks across the early years of school. Findings could be used to enhance teachers’ understanding about the role of the cognitive processes employed by children in numeracy learning, and so inform teachers’ classroom practices. -
Risk-Taking in the New Zealand Bush: Issues of Resilience and Wellbeing
Amanda Bateman, Jane Waters 환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 23 Pages
환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2018, Vol.12 No.2 2 7-29 (23 pages)
This article discusses a single case analysis of teacher-child interactions on an everyday bush walk in New Zealand. It uses a combination of the Leuven wellbeing scale (Laevers, 2000) and a conversation analysis approach to explore how children and teachers attend to specific features of the outdoor environment in a way that encourages risk-taking and builds resilience through problem solving. The collaborative achievement of the activities between the pre- school teacher and the fouryear- old... -
Using Participatory Research for Early Childhood Advocacy:Reflections on Methodology
Lynn Ang 환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 21 Pages
환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2015, Vol.9 No.2 1 1-21 (21 pages)
This paper discusses the methodological implications of using participatory research in the advocacy for better care and education services for children and families. The discussion uses the example of a national study undertaken in Singapore to show how participatory research used in collaboration with participants and commissioning body as key stakeholders can help to galvanise transformative change at the level of policy and provision. It explores the development of a participatory approach... -

환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2015, Vol.9 No.1 3 39-64 (26 pages)
The purposes of this study were to analyze individual interviews about how young children perceived the meanings of happiness and when they felt happy, to understand the characteristics of their thoughts and experiences of happiness, and to make plans to promote their happiness. The findings were as follows: first, young children explained the meanings of happiness with positive emotional... -
A Cultural-Historical View of Child Development: Key Concepts for Going Beyond a Universal View of the Child
Marilyn Fleer 환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 19 Pages
환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2015, Vol.9 No.1 2 19-37 (19 pages)
A developmental view of child development with its biological imperatives has been extensively critiqued over the years and found to be wanting from a range of cultural (Rogoff, 2003; Howes, 2010), social (Qvortrup, Corsaro & Honig, 2009) and even health (Bendelow, 2009; Rogoff, 2011) reasons. But what has been missing from these debates has been a theoretically robust presentation of another way of conceptualizing children’s development (Hedegaard & Fleer, 2013). In drawing upon... -

This study explored early childhood educators’ aesthetic teaching beliefs and practices in Yunlin, Chiayi, and Tainan counties in Taiwan. Survey and interview methods were employed. The findings were as follows. (1) The average of early childhood educators’ aesthetic teaching beliefs and practices was high. Their teaching beliefs were stronger than teaching practices. education. The teachers in the study reveal various perspectives on how SLA and bilingualism manifest during the early years, and how they affect the learning of children with a Language Background other than English (LBOTE). The teachers also seemed to rely on experiential and intuitive approaches in planning and teaching English Language Learners (ELLs). This study brings new perspectives to understanding the nature of teachers’ beliefs and practice regarding English language learners. -
Better Start Before Kindergarten: Computer Technology, Interactive Media and the Education of Preschoolers
Kathleen A. Paciga, Jennifer Garrette Lisy, William H. Teale 환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 20 Pages
환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2013, Vol.7 No.2 6 85-104 (20 pages)
This article discusses issues of technology, interactive media and preschool education related to the areas of early language and literacy. From discussions with other researchers and practitioners, we suspect that the status, situations, and children’s reactions to technology reported on here apply widely across disciplines and curricular areas in early childhood. We focus first on current research related to the role of technology in preschool children’s early language and literacy... -
