고려 후기의 고승 보각국사(普覺國師) 일연(一然, 1206∼1289)은 스테디셀러《삼국유사》의 찬술자이다. 본고에서는 일연이 통철한 깨달음으로 중생제도를 위해 노력했던 종교인임을 논했으며, 불국토가 현현된 세계와 그가 지향하고 있는 가치관에 대해 고찰하였다. 이를 위해 13세기 무신정권 과 몽골 침입의 극성기에 포산에서 은둔 수행했던 일연의 행적을 고찰하였다. 수행 정진에 뛰어나 칭송을 받던 31세의 일연은 몽골군이 목전에 온 상황에서 국난 타계를 염원하기 위한 피신처를 찾았다. ‘문수오자주(文殊五字呪)’로써...
