The advantages of monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs) on insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) have been well established. However, the molecular mechanisms of the anti-diabetic action of MUFAs remain unclear. This study examined the anti-hyperglycemic effect and explored the molecular mechanisms involved in the actions of fish oil- rich in MUFAs that had been acquired from hybrid catfish (Pangasius larnaudii×Pangasianodon hypophthalmus ) among experimental type 2 diabetic... -
Airway Smooth Muscle Sensitivity to Methacholine in Precision-Cut Lung Slices (PCLS) from Ovalbumin-induced Asthmatic Mice

Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR) and reversible airway obstruction. Methacholine (MCh) is widely used in broncho-provocation test to evaluate airway resistance. For experimental investigation, ovalbumin-induced sensitization is fre-quently used in rodents (Ova-asthma). However, albeit the inflammatory histology and AHR in vivo, it remains unclear whether the MCh sensitivity of airway smooth muscle isolated from Ova-asthma is persistently... -

We have previously demonstrated that the level of leukocytes and neutrophils significantly increased immediately and 30 min after exercise. Interleukin-8 (IL-8) is an inflammatory cytokine that acts as a chemokine on neutrophils. In the present study, we evaluated the correlation between the number of neutrophils and leukocytes, and between the number of neutrophils and plasma IL-8 level. Long-distance trained runners (TRs, n = 10) and untrained sedentary control subjects (SEDs, n = 10) ran for... -

This study investigates the ways in which quantitative social scientists have attempted to examine school effects on student achievement. Since the 1966 publication of the Coleman Report, school effects research broadly categorized as input-output studies -
An Individual Difference Approach to Understanding Campaign Message Effects: Self-Monitoring, Perceived Message Effectiveness, and Presumed Media Influence

data in a charity campaign context indicates that high self-monitors evaluate the charity campaign message more favorably than low self-monitors. In addition, perceived message effectiveness and presumed media influence are significantly associated with charitable behavior intention only among high selfmonitors. The findings highlight the importance of understanding individual differences for designing campaign messages and predicting their effects more effectively. Key words : self-monitoring,... -

model. On the other hand, father’s ‘intimacy’ and ‘control’ have significant direct effects to children’s aggression, which is a dependent variable in the model, in contrast, mothers’ ‘intimacy’, ‘control’, and ‘overprotection’ had significant direct effects to children’s aggression. In addition, there is a negative relationship children’s empathy and aggression significantly. Implications of findings were presented for educational policy makers and researchers on parenting. -

Investigations of reading readiness among early preschool children in Thailand have revealed contextual language and social elements that are different from speakers of other languages. The goal of this study was to further understand important variables that predict future reading readiness among Thai children, namely, the influence of visual perception and attention on naming ability. There were 158 preschoolers aged 5 -6.8 years of age, who performed the following tests: Coloured Progressive... -

The Hong Kong Early Child Development Scale (HKECDS) is a tool for assessing holistic early child development in preschoolers aged from three to six years. The original version of the scale, HKECDS, was updated in 2019 (HKECDS-2) to reflect the contemporary context and local curricular expectations. Children (n = 144) from three kindergartens in Hong Kong completed the HKECDS-2 in individual sessions. Rasch model analysis and expert discussions resulted in a short version of the scale (HKECDS-3)...
