Reactive oxygen species (ROS) production is one of the main mechanisms used to kill microbes during innate immune response. D-lactic acid, which is augmented during acute ruminal acidosis, reduces platelet activating factor (PAF)-induced ROS production and L-selectin shedding in bovine neutrophils in vitro. This study was conducted to investigate whether acute ruminal acidosis induced by acute oligofructose overload in heifers interferes with ROS production and L-selectin shedding in blood... -

Nitric oxide (NO) is important in the regulation of bone remodeling, whereas high concentration of NO promotes cell death of osteoblast. However, it is not clear yet whether NO-induced autophagy is implicated in cell death or survival of osteoblast. The present study is aimed to examine the role of NO-induced autophagy in the MC3T3-E1 cells and their underlying molecular mechanism. The effect of sodium nitroprusside (SNP), an NO donor, on the cytotoxicity of the MC3T3-E1 cells was determined by... -

Quercetin-3-O-Ղ-D-glucuronopyranoside (QGC) is a flavonoid glucoside extracted from Rumex Aquaticus Herba. In the present study, anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory effects of QGC were tested in vitro. Epithelial cells obtained from cat esophagus were cultured. When the cells were exposed to acid for 2 h, cell viability was decreased to 36%. Pretreatment with 50 ՌM QGC for 2 h prevented the reduction in cell viability. QGC also inhibited the productions of intracellular ROS by... -

In this study, we focused to identify whether eupatilin (5,7-dihydroxy-3',4',6-trimethoxyflavone), an extract from Artemisia argyi folium, prevents H2O2-induced injury of cultured feline esophageal epithelial cells. Cell viability was measured by the conventional MTT reduction assay. Western blot analysis was performed to investigate the expression of 5-lipoxygenase by H2O2 treatment in the absence and presence of inhibitors. When cells were exposed to 600 ՌM H2O2 for 24 hours, cell... -

Quercetin-3-O-Ղ-D-glucuronopyranoside (QGC) is a flavonoid glucoside extracted from Rumex Aquaticus Herba. We aimed to explore its protective effect against ethanol-induced cell damage and the mechanism involved in the effect in feline esophageal epithelial cells (EEC). Cell viability was tested and 2',7'-dichlorofluorescin diacetate assay was used to detect intracellular H2O2 production. Western blotting analysis was performed to investigate MAPK activation and interleukin 6 (IL-6)... -

selective P2X antagonist, inhibited the contraction evoked by EFS. Reactive blue (10−6∼10−4 M), selective P2Y antagonist, also blocked the contraction in a dose-dependent manner. In addition, P2X agonist Ձ,Ղ-methylene 5'-adenosine triphosphate (ՁՂMeATP, 10−7∼10−5 M) potentiated EFS-induced contraction in a dose-dependent manner. P2Y agonist adenosine 5'-[Ղ-thio]diphosphate trilithium salt (ADPՂS, 10−7∼10−5 M)... -

A splanchic artery occlusion for 90 min followed by reperfusion of the mesenteric circulation resulted in a severe form of circulatory shock, characterized by endothelial dysfunction, severe hypotension, marked intestinal tissue injury, and a high mortality rate. The effect of defibrotide, a complex of single-stranded polydeoxyribonucleotides having antithrombotic effect, was investigated in a model of splanchnic artery occlusion (SAO) shock in urethane anesthetized rats. Occlusion of the... -
Effect of C1 Esterase Inhibitor on the Cardiac Dysfunction Following Ischemia and Reperfusion in the Isolated Perfused Rat Heart

Complement-mediated neutrophil activation has been hypothesized to be an important mechanism of reperfusion injury. It has been proposed that C1 esterase inhibitor (C1 INH) may prevent the complement- dependent activation of polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNs) that occurs within postischemic myocardium. Therefore, The effect of C1 INH was examined in neutrophil dependent isolated perfused rat heart model of ischemia (I) (20 min) and reperfusion (R) (45 min). Administration of C1 INH (5 mg/Kg)...
